Support Your Local Trail Stewardship
Launched in 2014, Chico Velo’s Trailworks supports and manages the creation and maintenance of sustainable and enjoyable trails in our region. We have established a strong partnership with the City of Chico to maintain the trails in Upper Bidwell Park. Trailworks has done additional work in Oroville area and beyond. We are actively seeking new partnerships and opportunities within our community to promote sustainable trail design. Our Trailworks volunteers put in hundreds of hours every year improving trails for all users to enjoy. To see our latest project check out our Colby Mountain Recreation Project.
You can always give back by volunteering with Trailworks - Workdays are typically weather dependent and begin regularly in the Fall.

Upper Bidwell Park Park Fire Rehabilitation Progress
In late July 2024, approximately 1,700 acres of Upper Bidwell Park in Chico, CA were impacted by the Park Fire. Held dearly by many as the “Crown Jewel” of Chico, it is where thousands of residents go for outdoor recreation and enjoyment.
Through the efforts lead by the City, support from Chico Velo Trailworks made it possible to reopen a portion of the trails quickly and safely. We inventoried the trails, assessed hazards, deployed signs and barriers, and assisted in the mapping for recreational accessibility. This collaboration between the City, Trailworks Crew Leaders, and community members so far has added up to 60 volunteer hours! Thanks to the quick response, recreational users only had about 24 days of trail closures.
Since then, Trailworks has held numerous work days to prepare the trails most heavily impacted in the burn scar. Trail work season is usually later in the fall, but duty called and many answered.
