Advocacy
Every year Chico Velo works very hard to advocate and educate our community and beyond about the benefits and joys of bicycling and non-motorized means of transportation. Through our programs with the generous help of our sponsors, members, volunteers, and community we are able to lead a number of events, organized rides, bicycle rodeos, trail work days, and cycling education opportunities.
Community Action and having a our voice heard is a key component to Chico Velo's success in advocate for bicyclists of all types and abilities. Chico Velo is actively involved with the Chico Bike Advisory Committee, BCAG Transportation Advisory Committee, and the California Bicycle Coalition. In addition, we stay up to date on City Council meeting agendas and Public Works projects to ensure the bicycling community has a voice in local happenings. We work together with these groups and others to develop and implement programs that aim to educate our community about bicycling and support local cyclists of all levels and interests. To further advocate for bicyclists and non-motorized users we work closely with the City of Chico and Butte County in order to ensure cycling and non-motorized forms of transportation are included in all infrastructure plans where applicable.
On the national level, we align with and leverage the work of the Safe Routes to School National Partnership, the League of American Bicyclists, the Alliance for Biking and Walking, and the International Mountain Bicycling Association. The city of Chico is currently designated as a Gold level Bicycle Friendly Community with direct support from Chico Velo.
Have an idea? Want something improved to make your bicycle ride safer and/or more enjoyable?

Remembering Ed
Ed McLaughlin founded Chico Velo and was the organization's first Executive Director. He was an advocate and changemaker for early bicycle infrastructure and events in Chico and Northern California for many years. We work in honor of his legacy to encourage more people to experience the joy and benefits of bicycling.
