Advocacy & Community Support
Every year Chico Velo works very hard to advocate and educate our community and beyond about the benefits and joys of bicycling and non-motorized means of transportation.  Through our programs with the generous help of our sponsors, members, volunteers, and community we are able to lead a number of events, organized rides, bicycle rodeos, trail work days, and cycling education opportunities.

In 2025, Chico Velo supported these active transportation initiatives and events in Butte County:
Bikeway 99 Bridge Ribbon Cutting
Downtown Chico Revitalization Project
CSU Green Campus Bicycle Ride
CA Transportation Commission Town Hall

Community action,  support, and having a our voice heard is a key component to Chico Velo's success in advocate for bicyclists of all types and abilities.  Chico Velo is actively involved with the
Chico Bike Advisory Committee, BCAG Transportation Advisory Committee, CSU Chico Green Campus, and the California Bicycle Coalition.

Chico Velo also applies for grants to help subsidize our programs, especially Bike Valet. Bike Valet is free and secure bicycle parking at events, encouraging community members to ride their bikes or use active transportation. We present to various businesses, clubs, and organizations about our mission, and sharing the benefits of active transportation and recreation.

In addition, we stay up to date on City Council meeting agendas and Public Works projects to ensure the bicycling community has a voice in local happenings. We work together with these groups and others to develop and implement programs that aim to educate our community about bicycling and support local cyclists of all levels and interests.

On the national level, we align with and leverage the work of the Safe Routes to School National Partnership, the League of American Bicyclists, the Alliance for Biking and Walking, and the International Mountain Bicycling Association.  The city of Chico is currently designated as a Gold level Bicycle Friendly Community with direct support from Chico Velo.  To further advocate for bicyclists and non-motorized users we work closely with the City of Chico and Butte County in order to ensure cycling and non-motorized forms of transportation are included in all infrastructure plans where applicable.
