OUR MISSION

Chico Velo’s mission is to promote bicycling for transportation, recreation, and health through public education, advocacy, and community stewardship.

We are guided by our primary objectives to:

  • Foster and promote bicycling for transportation, recreation, health and wellness
  • Advocate for bicycle safety and infrastructure and provide bicycling education
  • Provide stewardship and volunteer opportunities within the community
  • Promote Northern California as a bicycling and recreation destination to encourage tourism
  • Cultivate diversity, through equity and inclusion, within the organization and in our work throughout the community

ABOUT US

Chico Velo's roots were planted in 1980 by a group of Chico cycling enthusiasts, including Ed McLaughlin, who had a vision to see expanded and safer bicycling routes throughout the community. These early leaders advocated for much of the bicycle infrastructure available in the community today and fostered the region's passionate bicycle culture.

Today, Chico Velo is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to promote bicycling for transportation, recreation and health through public education, advocacy, and community stewardship. Chico Velo's events, along with support from donors and sponsors, fund our advocacy and outreach efforts as well as multiple programs that further our mission.

Chico Velo is dedicated to promoting bicycling and alternative transportation as part of a sustainable community and ensuring everyone can experience the freedom and joy a bicycle provides.

Chico Velo is the “go to” organization for expert feedback on bicycle and active transportation , especially when helping with the City of Chico’s Planning and Public Works efforts. In addition, we have a strong history of working with local business, schools, and the general public on the safety, health and economic benefits of bicycling to ensure projects and programs are as safe as they can be.
