OUR MISSION
Chico Velo is dedicated to promoting Cycling in our community through education and outreach. Our goal is to ensure that our future generations can grow up in an area where it is safe to ride their bicycles without fear of theft, accidents, or lack of infrastructure. Every child should be able to experience the freedom and joy that a bicycle can provide. Every adult should have the opportunity to either create or recreate that experience. With your help we can ensure that our community has the opportunity to experience the joys and benefits of cycling safely in Northern California and Beyond.
HISTORY
Chico Velo is a 501.c.3 non-profit organization founded in 1980 by Ed McLaughlin. The organization originally began as a bicycling club, but Ed quickly realized that the club could do more than offer amazing rides to the community. Ed had a vision to ensure safe cycling routes including bike paths, closing down South Park drive in Lower Bidwell Park to cars, and a world of active transportation via bicycle, just to mention a few. Chico Velo has continued Ed’s legacy by being actively involved in any and all legislation that involves infrastructure that could potentially increase or decrease cycling. It is safe to say that not a single bike lane, bicycle rack, new development, improvements to old developments, have occurred in our community without Chico Velo’s input. Chico Velo is dedicated to ensuring the youth in our community have an opportunity to ride a bicycle in a safe and comfortable environment.
