Bike to School Week: May 12–15, 2025

Picture
Students, parents, and staff are encouraged to cycle, roll, or walk to school, especially during this week. Notice the freedom from traffic jams and how much better you feel!

Host Bike Week Events at Your School!

Interested in hosting Bike Week Events at your school? We are happy to help support your efforts!
Here are some ideas to help you start the planning process:
  • Outreach to Students and Parents encouraging kids to cycle, walk, or roll to school this week.
  • Educate Students and Parents regarding bicycle and road safety.
  • Do a raffle drawing for any kids that actively commuted to school during the week.
    • Raffle Prize Ideas: Bike lights, bike bells, t-shirts, bike water bottles, etc.
  • Organize a Bike Bus.
  • Provide an assembly to talk about bike safety and the benefits of active commuting.

Live too Far Away?

If you think you live too far away for your child to ride to school, try mapping a route on the Chico Bike Map. Often a bike route is safer and quicker than the driving pattern. Take a trial run on the week end and check your mileage. If you really do live more than 3-5 miles away and your family is not ready to tackle high mileage, then pick a meeting spot (possibly a friend's house) closer to the school where your kids and their friends can ride together. Consider riding with your kids or take turns with other parents. Remember to set a good example by wearing your helmet!

Help Sponsor a Winner

We are currently seeking sponsors of bike awards so that every school can have a winner. Whether you are a business, parent, or a caring community member, your donation would be highlighted on our certificates and our website. Your support is appreciated, and allows us the time and resources to help more schools participate in Bike Week!
