Project Info, Updates & TimelineNo Motorized Vehicles/Devices
April 2026 Update: We’re excited to announce the opening of the Colby Mountain trails for 2026 and the opening of Lookout Trail - another 2 miles of singletrack that links to the existing Escape Trail for a killer 10 mile loop. The loop is great in both directions with slightly more challenging climbs when ridden/hiked/run clockwise. Chico Velo has been working hard to get the trails ready for use- clearing 37 downed trees & smaller debris along 15 miles of trail in 4 days. Thank you to those who have donated to Chico Velo to help fund this maintenance: www.chicovelo.org/donate Humboldt Drop Trail still has snow at the top, so please plan accordingly. A reminder that these trails are NOT open to motor vehicles (there was some damage by motorcycles). If you see someone on the trails with a vehicle with a throttle, please politely remind them to ride the existing roads and trails that are built for motorized use. Maintenance and costs significantly increase with unauthorized use. Trail Status: Escape Trail: OPEN Lookout Trail: OPEN Humboldt Drop: OPEN Humboldt Drop, a one-way downhill trail for advanced or experienced MTB riders. Every feature is optional, with jumps, berms, and drops! Unavoidable features are signed DROP. Escape Trail & Lookout Trail are multi-use trails that are also is built to include adaptive MTBs. These trails are both directions. Thanks to Butte County Search and Rescue, there are Rescue Points signed on Escape and Humboldt Drop. Look for signs with the BCSAR logo and # for reference in case of severe injury or rescue! Use Trailforks to see trail routes, submit ride reports, or donate to Trailworks using Trail Karma. Sign Up for our Volunteer Email List, to be invited to workdays at Colby Mountain. How to access: Humboldt Drop: Drive to Humboldt Summit via Humboldt Summit Road, access trailhead to the West of the open space. Escape & Lookout: Park at "the hub" to access both trails. Parking for Escape Trail is also available at the Colby Mtn Lookout: Drive to the Lookout using N Philbrook road (gravel)/ FR 27N06 to get on Colby Mountain Lookout Road. At the Lookout, north of the bathroom is a double track. This double track leads you to Escape Trail, which turns West from the ridge. Coming soon:
