ABOUT THE RIDE: The Wildflower is the anchor of the Chico Velo Century Series. It was first offered as an organized event in 1981. While it poured most of the day, about 60 riders struggled through it. The hard part was making this wonderful 85 mile ride into a century.

We'll stop at the Paradise Community Park for the 2nd rest stop.......before climbing up and up and up to Lovelock via Coutelenc Road! From there, we'll head down Pentz Road.....before stopping at the Durham Park for the final rest stop. An easy stroll through Bidwell Park will bring riders back to Manzanita Avenue - and to the finish at the Elks Lodge/Manzanita Place. Total mileage is 100, with about 4,600 feet of total climbing! Tour de Ed 2012

Organized by the Chico Cyclist Care Fund

We'll have registration info here -  SOON!

Sunday, March 4 will be the 5th annual Tour de Ed bicycle ride. This event raises funds for financial assistance to injured bicyclists in the Chico area. Registration starts at 8AM the day of the event at the Chico City Hall parking lot, with the ride starting at 10AM. This is an easy 20 mile level loop, south from Chico to towards the Sacramento River, through Durham and returning to downtown Chico. A six mile loop through Bidwell Park is also available, primarily for children and families.

In 2007, local bicycle advocate Ed McLaughlin suffered a severe neck injury in a bicycle accident in Bidwell Park. The first year’s ride was to help with Ed’s medical bills. Ed is a well known figure in Chico, and his injury mobilized the community to come to his support. His accident demonstrated the need for assistance to other riders in our community, and the nonprofit Chico Cyclists Care Fund was created as permanent source for assistance to others.

Registration is $25 per rider, which includes an event T shirt. Contributions to the Chico Cyclists’ Care fund are also welcomed from those who cannot participate in the event. Businesses and individuals can also support this event though sponsorships. Riders can register the morning of the event. Registration can also be in advance by downloading the registration form at the Chico Velo website and returning it by mail to P.O. Box 2036, Chico CA 95927.
