Velo: March Adventure Ride

March Adventure Ride (no fee, minimal support includes map with route options and available services highlighted): Unknown Valley (north) - 78 miles

 Start/finish in Orland. Route goes south from Orland to Willows, then west on Hwy 162 to Elk Creek (store for snacks etc 1/2 mile off the route) , north on to Newville, then east back to Orland past Black Butte Lake. Bring the food and drink you'll need, as well as basic supplies (tubes, air) and be prepared for a variety of temperature/weather conditions.

Meet at One-Mile at 7:45am to carpool (depart at 8am) or join us in Orland (park in the usual place in the gravel by the RR tracks on the north side of Hwy 32, between 5th and 6th St)

Tacos for lunch in Orland or Hamilton City post-ride!

RAIN cancels... unless you're really tough!

New to Chico or to cycling?

If you're from out of town or just starting to cycle, look no further! The Chico Velo integrated ride calendar includes all community rides for your convenience. Want to post a ride? Just send us an email, or call us at 530.343.8356 and we'll add it to the calendar. Include date, time, ride leader, pace and terrain rating, and any other relevant info.

Road Rides:

Terrain Ratings

1: Flat ride (ex: River Road loop)
2: Some rolling hills (Keefer Rd)
3: Moderate climbing (Neal Road)
4: Serious climbing (Honey Run)

Pace Ratings (comfortable pace for 30 minutes on a FLAT road):

A: 10-12 mph (ride as group)
B: 13-15 mph (ride as group)
C: 16-18 mph (some re-groups)
D: 19-21 mph (some re-groups)
E: 22-24 mph (possible re-groups)
F: 25+ mph (regroups unlikely)

 

Mountain Bike Rides

Terrain and technical level ratings:

1: Flat to rolling, mainly fire roads (Upper park road)
2: Some rolling hills, some single-track (Dan Beebe train in Oroville)
3: Moderate to significant climbing, single-track, moderately technical (Potter Ravine trail in Oroville)

4: Significant climbing and or extremely technical terrain (most Upper Park trails) 

Pace Ratings:

A: 7-9 mph (ride as group)
B: 10-12mph (frequent re-groups)
C: 13-15 mph (regular re-groups)
D: 16-18 mph (some re-groups)
E: 19-21 mph (possible re-groups)
F: 21+ mph (regroups unlikely)
